#UAAP78 Day 16: FEU Sweep Ateneo, UST Outlasts La Salle



In the 11am game of the Sunday offering of the 78th season of the UAAP at the Araneta Coliseum. The Far Eastern University Tamaraws swept the Ateneo Blue Eagles 66-61 to remain on top of the standings.

Contrary to their first meeting in the season, the second game between the Tamaraws and the Eagles was more intense and close as both squads didn't let each other make any runs to take a huge lead even ending the first period tied at 19 and ending the third period tied at 47.

Even if they are in foul trouble in the first three quarters, the Tamaraws played smart basketball entering fourth period, pushing Ateneo first to foul trouble with more than 5 minutes left in the game, FEU held on to a thin gap between them and the Blue Eagles at 59-56 with less than two minutes left in the game.

Leading the charge for FEU is Mac Belo giving out 12 big points for the Tamaraws to take a 7-1 win-loss record, adding to that is Russell Escoto and Roger Pogoy who scored 10 points each in this game. Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles found a new scorer in Rookie Adrian Wong, who had a career high 14 point in this game, still Kiefer Ravena top scored with 15 points as Ateneo drops to 4-4.

In the 4pm game, the University of Sto Tomas completes a comeback to beat the De La Salle Green Archer 81-79.

La Salle was leading in the first three quarters, though early in the first quarter UST were able to tae an 11-7 lead with 5 minutes left still the Green Archers were able to take a single point advantage with a 22-21 lead. In the next quarter La Salle extends their lead to a 28-21 run even making it a 45-37 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half UST's outside shooting starts to get hot as they were able to trim the lead of La Salle down 66-59, Entering the final period UST finally took over the lead after a three by Rookie Marvin Lee at 73-71, but La Salle quickly answered it with a basket from Prince Rivero to tie the ball game at 73. UST's offense was just on fire in the final minute of the game to take an 81-76 lead.

Rookie Marvin Lee steps up this game scoring a game high 13 points to tie UST with FEU in the top spot, meanwhile Jeron Teng top scored for La Salle with 16 points.
