#UAAP78 Day 9: FEU Uses Late Fourth Quarter Surge To Get Win Number 4, NU Overcomes Slow Start



The Far Eastern University Tamaraws overcomes the pesky University of the East Red Warriors 92-81 in their match dubbed as the Battle of the Easts in the 78th season of the UAAP yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Red Warriors showed determination and consistency in the first three quarters as they were able to keep FEU behind in double digit. The rookie-laden team of UE were unstoppable not only on offense but also in defense that gave FEU a hard time to score and to create plays and to force them more turnovers reaching 20 only in the first three quarters.

Entering the second half FEU still showing some signs of life, but the Red Warriors kept on finding ways to dominate the Tamaraws to end the quarter at 59-71, but in the fourth quarter a different FEU squad entered the court showing no signs of frustration and urgency, a more relaxed and composed Tamaraws started a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 5 at 66-71 with 8:30 left in the game, the surge continues as UE only able to score four points to keep a 72-75 lead but a three point shot by Mac Belo change the pace of the game as the lead of the Red Warriors was erased.

The Tamaraws unleashes a 33-10 run to finish the game reversing the upset ax by UE. Mac Belo scored 24 points in this game, adding to that is Raymar Jose's double-double performance of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Mike Tolomia and Monbert Arong added combined 29 points for the Tamaraws in getting their 4th win for the season.

Super Rookie Edson Batiller almost carried the Red Warriors in winning this game producing 18 points, but he fouled out in the end part of the final quarter.

UE Red Warriors 81:

In the second game of the Tuesday matchup of the 78th season of the UAAP, the defending champions NU Bulldogs dispatches the Adamson University Falcons 75-54 to get back to back victories.

The game started slow for the defending champs letting Adamson to lead at the end of the first quarter 17-19, but the Bulldogs bites back in the second quarter to end the first half 33-28. Entering the second half the NU Bulldogs did not anymore show any signs of mercy as they completely dominated the Adamson Falcons to keep them win less after 5 games.

Alfred Aroga again led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points, adding to that is Gelo Alolino and Ralph Tansingco with 10 points each, on the other side Ivan Villanueva was the only player form Adamson to score in double digit with 11 points.
