The highly anticipated results are in! The new kings of Mister Pilipinas Worldwide 2025 have officially been named!

Unlike last year, where only a single title 'Mister Pilipinas Worldwide' was awarded, this year’s competition saw a major revamp. The organization simplified the process by awarding seven distinct titles on the spot to the candidates who made it to the Top 7, giving each a chance to shine on the international stage.

Leading this year’s winners is Jether Palomo of Taguig City, who was crowned Mister Global Philippines 2025. He will now aim for a back-to-back victory at the Mister Global pageant, following in the footsteps of current titleholder Dom Corilla.

In a surprising twist, Kirk Bondad, who many fans anticipated would represent the Philippines at Mister Supranational in Poland, has instead been appointed to compete in the Thai Version of Mister International. Stepping into the Supranational spotlight is Kenneth Cabungcal of Dumaguete, who will carry the Philippine flag in Poland this June.

From Pampanga, Raven Renz Lansangan is set to represent the country at the 2026 Manhunt International competitio. Meanwhile, the newly introduced Mister Eco International Philippines title was awarded to Kitt Cortez of San Juan.

Rounding out the Top 7 are this year’s runners-up: Second Runner-Up Kenneth Marcelino will compete as Mister Cosmopolitan Philippines, and First Runner-Up Michael Angelo Toledo will vie for the title of Man of the Year, bringing his elegance and presence to another esteemed international pageant.

Review: Untold: A Chilling Yet Unpredictable Horror Experience

 

Untold tells the story of Vivian Vera, an ambitious young reporter whose pursuit of a breakthrough story takes a dark and dangerous turn when she becomes a blind witness to a series of chilling crimes. As she continues chasing viral headlines, Vivian begins to unravel — haunted not only by the ghosts tied to the crimes she once tried to cover up, but also by the weight of her own guilt. The line between truth and fabrication begins to blur, and her relentless ambition slowly gives way to a mental descent she can no longer ignore.

It's been a while since the last time I wrote a movie review, so pardon if some parts of this review may sound generic. 

Let’s start with the pros of this movie. I must that you really can’t deny that casting Jodi Sta. Maria as the lead was a already a victory for this film. Her portrayal of Vivian Vera is the film’s strongest asset. Jodi delivers a performance that’s both chilling and deeply human, she was able to capture the emotional unraveling of a woman haunted by guilt, monsters that she created, and the weight of untold truths. Her presence commands the screen, and she navigates the psychological depth of the role with a quiet intensity that lingers long after the credits roll. Simply put, Untold wouldn’t have hit as hard without her.

Although the story can feel a bit messy at times, with sudden shifts and unpredictable turns, the use of hallucinations, deep introspection, and flashbacks is well-executed. These elements work together seamlessly to unravel the complexities of Vivian’s journey, offering viewers a deeper understanding of her psychological state. While the narrative may be challenging to follow at moments, the way these techniques are woven into the storyline effectively conveys the unraveling of both her mind and the truth behind the crimes.

I also appreciated the subtle inclusion of unintentional humor in the story, especially toward the latter part of the movie. These moments provided a welcome contrast, lightening the mood during some of the more intense and chilling scenes. As Vivian faced increasingly horrifying confrontations and the conflict reached its peak, these humorous interludes helped balance the heavy tension, offering the audience brief moments of relief before diving back into the suspenseful, high-stakes drama.

Now, onto the cons of the movie. For me, Untold often felt more like an episode of Regal Studio Presents than a full-fledged feature film. It gave off the distinct vibe of a TV show, which made it harder to fully immerse in the cinematic experience. The cinematography, unfortunately, didn’t help elevate the film either — it felt somewhat lacking in moments where visual storytelling could have truly enhanced the tension.

Another downside was the use of CGI monsters. While CGI can work in certain contexts, it didn’t mesh well with the psychological horror thriller angle of the movie. The reliance on computer-generated creatures took away from the psychological tension and seemed to detract from the overall tone, which should have leaned more into suspense and mind-bending terror rather than visual spectacle.

There were also scenes that felt incomplete or underdeveloped. Without giving too much away (for fear of spoilers), I’ll say that the main plot lacked sufficient backstory, leaving some key story elements feeling underexplained. Additionally, many of the supporting characters seemed to appear out of nowhere, with little to no depth or background, which made it difficult to care about their roles in the larger narrative.

Untold could have been even stronger if it had followed a more consistent and solid storyline from the start. The pacing was a bit slow, and it took a while for the plot to truly take off. By the time the story gained momentum and the audience was fully invested in what was happening to Vivian, it had already lost some of its initial intrigue.

Overall, Untold stands out as a far better experience than many other local horror films I’ve seen recently. The jump scares were well-timed and effective, adding to the suspense, and while the tone occasionally leaned into camp, it didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment — I’m willing to embrace it.

Kelvin Miranda and Maymay Entrata team up for Netflix’s series, Happy Crush.

Netflix Philippines is set to brighten up the summer with its newest original series, Happy Crush, premiering tomorrow, April 24, 2025.

This charming romantic comedy marks the highly anticipated first on-screen pairing of Kelvin Miranda and Maymay Entrata, joined by Zach Castaneda, who completes the trio at the heart of the story.

The eight-episode series follow the story of Carla (Maymay Entrata), a rising celebrity who retreats to her hometown Barrio Lourdes in Pampanga during the COVID-19 pandemic after the passing of her mother. Returning home, Carla finds herself surrounded by old memories and familiar faces, including her high school barkada.

As she reconnects with her roots, Carla is pulled back into the nostalgia of her youth—especially when she crosses paths with Ayon (Zach Castaneda), her ultimate crush, and Migs (Kelvin Miranda), the quiet, dependable best friend who’s always been there... even when she didn’t notice.

Old feelings resurface, secrets come to light, and Carla must choose between the fantasy she once chased and the love that may have been there all along.  

Meanwhile, Director Carlo Enciso Catu recently took to social media to share the heartfelt journey behind the project — a series that has been years in the making. He wrote on his Facebook Post:

“Mahaba-haba ang naging byahe ng material na ito. Early 2020, hiningan ako ni Ms. Bianca ng tatlong original titles. Isa ang Happy Crush sa mga iyon, pero hindi ito ang napili.

Years later, habang kasama ko ang kapatid ko na mag-window shopping, nag-iimagine ng home renovations kahit salat sa work and project, tumawag si Ms. Bianca — nahanapan daw niya ng producer ang Happy Crush!

Agad kong sinimulan ang pagbuo ng mundo ni Carla, isang fifteen-year-old na dalagita na may ultimate crush, na naniniwalang kahit anong mangyari, sila at sila pa rin ang magkakatuluyan.

Pero kagaya ng pagdadalaga ni Carla, it takes a village for me to write this series. Eventually, nakasama ko ang kapatid ko sa pagbuo ng Barrio Lourdes at ibang mga karakter nito. Naging madali ang proseso naming dalawa dahil na rin siguro, pareho kaming lumaki sa totoong Barrio Lourdes, sa may Angeles, Pampanga — which became the main inspiration for this project.

Yung panahong parang ang bagal lang ng galaw ng mundo. Yung panahong ngiti lang ni crush, ayos na ang lahat.”

Catu’s post offers a nostalgic and personal glimpse into the creative process that the series went through that help shaped the fictional world of Happy Crush. 

The story isn't just about young love; it’s also a tender ode to adolescence, simplicity, and the little things that once made everything feel magical.

Rounding out the cast are Moi Bien, Andre Miguel, Peewee O'Hara, John Arcenas, Gaye Piccio, and Jan Silverio — bringing even more color and charm to this coming-of-age love story set against the backdrop of Barrio Lourdes.

New Kings Rise: 2025 King of the World Philippines Winners Crowned

 New Kings Crowned at the Second Edition of King of the World Philippines

The highly anticipated coronation of the second King of the World Philippines has officially taken place. Joeren King Finney of Negros Oriental succeeded last year's winner, Howell Adrian Pantolana, and was crowned the new King of the World Philippines.

True to his name, Joeren King Finney rose to the occasion, besting 36 other candidates to claim the coveted title.

The coronation night, held on Sunday, April 13, at La Sala Grande Events Place in Sta. Lucia, was a grand celebration of beauty, wit, and charisma.

In addition to Joeren Finney's victory, several other deserving titles were also awarded. Drei Arias of Malolos City was crowned KOTWPH Model Discovery, while Andy Mediamar of San Jose Del Monte City claimed the title of KOTWPH Face of the Year. Another Bulakenyo, Paul John Galang, took home the title of KOTWPH Supermodel, and rounding out the top 5 was Kent Magno from Pasig City, who was named KOTWPH Tourism.

A total of 10 winners were crowned during the event. In addition to the first five, Juma Matar Del Mundo of Rizal Province was named KOTWPH Charity, Miko Jardin of Quezon Province claimed the title of KOTWPH Culture, and Khane Timothy De Paz from Sta. Rosa City was crowned KOTWPH Heritage. Completing the top 10 winners were 1st runner-up Godwin Jay Hernandez of Candelaria, Quezon and 2nd runner-up Joseph Mangahas of Bustos, Bulacan.

Second Time's the Charm: Justine Pontejos Claims Mister Batangas 2025 Title

 

The second time was the charm for Justine Pontejos of Malvar, as he finally took home the coveted Mister Batangas 2025 title in his second attempt.

The 22-year-old barista and Air Force reservist overcame past setbacks, defeating 26 other candidates from across Batangas to earn the opportunity to represent his province on the national stage.

Justine’s second try was much sweeter, especially after the heartbreak of the previous year, when he went home empty-handed. Reflecting on that loss, Justine admits that he struggled with anxiety, questioning what went wrong and what was wrong with him. However, instead of allowing the defeat to discourage him, he used it as motivation to become the best version of himself.

He focused on improving his physical fitness and communication skills, which served as major confidence boosters. Justine’s hard work clearly paid off as he captivated the stage throughout the competition, earning several special awards and, of course, claiming nearly all of the major awards, including Best in Swimwear and Best in Formal Wear.

Now that he has won Mister Batangas, Justine is deeply grateful for everyone who supported him throughout his comeback journey—his family, friends, and all those who guided him along the way and celebrated this victory with him.

Next stop for Justine is the Mister International Philippines 2025 pageant happening this July.

"Untold" is a psychological horror-thriller that stars Jodi Sta Maria in her first collaboration with Regal Entertainment Inc.. The film is also one of the last three projects personally approved by the Regal Matriarch, Mother Lily Monteverde, before her passing last year, adding a layer of significance to its release.

Directed by Derrick Cabrido, who previously worked with Jodi on the 2019 hit "Clarita", this film explores the chilling consequences of deceit, ambition, and guilt. Aside from Jodi, the movie also features Joem Bascon, Juan Karlos, Mylene Dizon, Kaori Oinuma, Sarah Edwards, Lianne Valentin, and Ms. Gloria Diaz.
