Binibining Pilipinas 2017 Final Hot Picks

We're only few moments away from knowing who among the 40 Binibinis will be crowned as Miss international, Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Grand International, Miss Globe and Miss Universe Philippines. So here's my own fearless forecast of who will win these crowns to represent the Philippines.

Second Runner Up:

Dindi Pajares

Dindi was one of my favorites to win a crown last year because she is one of the stand outs when it comes to beauty and body, but this year though she is still one of the most beautiful candidate but there's something lacking in her package as a candidate. I felt she was sometimes over styled, looking at the past events she is not really making her presence felt, but still I am rooting for her that's why I placed her as the second runner up.

First Runner Up

Sirene Sutton

Sirene is a new face in Binibini, but even though she is a newbie, she still has one of the most beautiful faces in the competition. Her beauty radiates elegance perfect for a queen, but I  felt that she is not yet ripe to wear a crown maybe if she join again next year she could bag a crown, for me she is a Miss International material, but for now she is my first runner up.

Miss Globe- Philippines

Marielle De leon

Marielle is one of the most improved repeater in the pageant, back from her 2013 stint Marielle was able to put herself as one of the crowd favorites this year by showing that her body is her ace in getting a crown, adding to that is her wit and intelligence and a good attitude that will secure her of a crown on the coronation night. And I felt that the crown that will fit her best is the Miss Globe-Philippines Crown.

Bb Pilipinas- Intercontinental

Rachel Peters

Rachel is one of the silent front runners in the pageant., I felt her overall package is worthy of the intercontinental crown, for me she has the attributes and quality of Jenn Hammond, Christy Mcgarry, and Kris Janson combined. Who knows, maybe she could bring the first Miss Intercontinental title for the Philippines.

Bb Pilipinas- Grand International

Chanel Thomas

Chanel has a strong beauty that perfectly fits in the Miss Grand International, and like Nicole Cordoves I believe  that Chanel will also nail the MGI pageant specially with her eloquence, wit, and fierce aura, she has a strong chance of finally winning the elusive green and gold crown of Miss Grand International.

Bb Pilipinas- Supranational

Jehza Huelar

Jehza is one of the big revelation last year, landing as a runner up is already a big achievement for a young beauty from Davao back then, but this year that young beauty has evolved into a more mature woman ready to take a crown and I believe the crown that fits her is the Miss Supranational crown. Why Miss Supranational? Because I believe Jehza can slay it in the ramp and I can see Mutya in Jehza because they are both care free on stage.

Miss International- Philippines

Katarina Rodriguez

Miss Universe- Philippines

Charmaine Elima

I am really torn between Kat and Maine since they are my favorite in this batch, their overall package is contrasting, one is a mestiza and the other is a morena. But I believe Maine has an advantage of experience over Kat since she already joined Binibini back in 2013.

Why did I place Kat as Miss International? It's because Katarina's aura is overflowing of grace and elegance that I believe will be a big advantage for her in case  she will be our representative in the Miss International pageant. Well, I guess we all know that Kylie's biggest ace in winning the MI title last year was her grace and elegance, the way she carried herself and the way she answered in the Q&A was full of grace and elegance and I guess Kat also got it. Maybe we could have a back to back win just in case.

Why did I choose Maine as Miss Universe? Aside from she's one of my favorites, Maine's improvement is very eminent from her looks, the way she interacts with people, the way she answers, the way she carries herself, you can see that this lady is in it to win the crown and I believe her beauty can stand out in the next Miss Universe pageant. Also among the girls in the pageant this year, I felt Maine has the Miss U qualities, basing on her performance in the past events like  the Jag fashion show, Parade of Beauties, Press Presentation, and even the National Costume presentation.

P.S.

These are just my opinion, I don't mean to offend anyone with this post, again these are just my thoughts. By the way, the Coronation Night will be on April  30, Sunday.

CInemaone Originals 2017 Official Entries

Expect a broader Cinema One Originals Film Festival this 2017 with seven feature films selected as this year’s competition finalists — “Nay,” “Nervous Translation,” Throwback Thursday,” “Changing Partners,” “Historiographika Errata,” “Paki” and “Si Chedeng, Si Apple, Si Louis Vuitton” — all chosen to deliver fresh stories with poignant, hilarious and extraordinary accounts that will touch the lives of more diverse audiences and make the festival more enjoyable than ever.
Brilliant young Filipino directors are bringing in never-before-seen chronicles in the much-awaited Cinema One Originals full-length film competition.
Director Kip Oebanda goes for the supernatural as he makes a film about a rich, sheltered youth who gets to be transformed into an aswang by his yaya, Nay Luisa, in “Nay.”
Shireen Seno’s “Nervous Translation” is about a shy eight-year old Yaelm who lives in her own private world. One day, she discovers a pen that can translate the thoughts and feelings of nervous people.
In “Throwback Thursday,” director Joseph Teoxon and writer Pertee Brinas will highlight the misadventures of Primo, a gifted production designer who was unprepared for the harsh realities of the real world. While trying to make ends meet at the peak of his misfortunes, he experiences a technical glitch with his old desktop computer and gets a chance to rewrite his life.
From fantasy to reality, this year’s Cinema One Originals entries also include “Changing Partners.” Here, Director Dan Villegas makes a round robin, gender-switching falling out of love story of a GenXer to a millennial. Written by Erlito Reyes and Vincent de Jesus, it is an adaptation of the play by Vincent de Jesus, and a realistic take on why relationships do not last.
Historical mosaics will be the highlight of Richard Somes’ “Historiographika Errata.” This film has characters depicting the Philippines’ damaged culture such as a disillusioned and suicidal Rizal, a cross-dressing Bonifacio, an ex-Katipunero who joins the US army to save his own neck, and a widow whose sex-for-food errands lead her to become the first ever Makapili.
There will also be two narrative films to tackle fascinating and shocking adventures of women in their twilight years.
Giancarlo Abrahan’s “Paki” tells the tale of an 80 year-old woman who decides to be an old maid and tries to face her children who forbid her to separate from her husband. In “Si Chedeng, Si Apple, Si Louis Vuitton,” directors Fatrick Tabada and Rae Red will bring to light two women in their 60’s who are off to a hilarious adventure. In the wake of her husband’s death, Chedeng decides to come out of the closet. Her best friend, Apple, beheads her live-in partner in a fit of rage. Bound by friendship, the two women, together with the severed head placed in a bag, set off to find Chedeng’s ex-girlfriend.
Meanwhile, three finalists have been chosen for the Cinema One Originals documentary film category, and they will be taking viewers to bygone, revered and enigmatic places.
Phyllis Grande’s “Horror House” features a closer look at Bulacan’s Bahay na Pula, one of the garrisons used by the Japanese during World War II. Here, a group of youth pays their last visit to one of the most haunted places in the country.
Dempster Samarista will explore what could be a bazaar peddling bizarre mysteries on “Bundok Banahaw, Sacred and Profane (for the benefit of the doubt).” This docu will see how Mt. Banahaw, with its array of spiritual and superstitious perspectives, might be the perfect microcosm of Philippine society.
In “Architecture of Belief,” Jet Leyco and Camille Aragona will make a fantastic docu on the death of a scientist named Tiffany. Her former boyfriend, John, believes a sinister reason is behind the murder. Launching his own investigation, he uncovers a network of rampant government corruption, global conspiracy and the mysterious world of the illuminati.
Watch out for these interesting films and their amazing characters at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival happening on November 12-21, 2017.

Sinepiyu X

Far Eastern Univerty's annual film festival organized by the FEU Film Society is now in its 10th year! The film festival started back in 2007 to give a chance for Mass Communication students to showcase their film making skills since the cinema subject is one of the major subjects in the widely diverse curriculum of the course.

Through the years Sinepiyu has evolved and expanded its horizons from a simple showcasing of short films made by the film society and film production students, the festival has now opened its doors to different short films and documentaries made by other students from different schools in the country.

This year Sinepiyu X is divided into two categories, the All FEU entries wherein all of the film entries in this category are films made by students from FEU that is currently enrolled in the CNM2 subject. The second category is the FEU Video Open which is the intercollegiate film festival that is open for student film makers all over the Philippine, the FEU Video Open is divided into three categories namely the Narrative, Documentary and the Experimental. There are almost 70 films to be shown in Sinepiyu X and out of that, there are 27 entries from the CNM2 Students.

Yesterday I had the chance to get a glimpse of the four films in the All FEU category, the first one is "Love Is Never Silent" directed by Salud Gilmore, starring Crizelle Vivas and David Simon Garcia, The premise of the story is about two completely different people that gets attracted to each other, the bubbly and loud girl meets a deaf mute boy, will their relationship grow

The next one is "Baon" directed by Florife Sapusao, starring John Benedict Garcia Vincent Paul Duller, and Tria Urbano. "Baon" is a coming of age short film about two young male students, Alex and Zymon, they always share their breaktime together everyday, from then on they became closer each and everyday that one day they realized that they are slowly falling for each other, but their story didn't go well as trouble came in that torn their friendship apart. Will their friendship be restored or will they let go and move on?

The third one is "Asul" directed by Josiah Privado and Angelique Sido, starring Jeanette Jamora, Roi Neri, and Arrian Labios. "Asul" tackles the infamous "Blue Book" that was a big buzz in the university belt before, rumor says that the Blue Book contains names and information of college girls that is into prostitution. The story revolves around Tina, a college student who also work as part time janitress to fund her education and to support her ailing grandmother and younger brother, life is tough for her and it gets tougher when series of unfortunate events struck her life that forced her to risk everything.

The last one is "On Fleek" directed by Patricia Ramirez, starring Raven Relavo, Margaux Romero, and John Patrick Isidro. "On Fleek" features the story of Lia an aspiring make up vlogger that struggles to do her own eyebrow make up, one day Lia went online to do another tutorial and to her surprise her crush Luis watches her, but Luis never did like her posts. Which of Lia's goals will be achieved? Her Kilay Goals or the Crush Goals?

Most of the "All FEU films" in Sinepiyu were shot inside FEU, because of the moratorium that the CHED issued after an accident in Taytay happened that prohibits any school activity to be done outside of the premise of the school. These film makers cited that as one of the biggest problems that they faced in making their films since they had a hard time pulling a trick to make the location don't look like FEU.
The Sinepiyu X will be on the 24th and 25th of April in FEU, Morayta.

Gabby Alipe Pays It Forward

With the success of his debut solo EP A New Strain, former Urbandub frontman Gabby Alipe is riding high these days. “Visions,” his first single as a solo artist, became a radio hit—and its successor “Paalam” is poised to do the same.

Since so many good things have come his way lately, Gabby and his record label MCA Music decided to pay it forward by supporting School-in-a-Bag, a program run by Smart Communications. The program aims to make learning easier for students in disadvantaged areas by giving them digital learning tools. Those tools include a solar panel for electricity, a laptop, a tablet, a mobile phone, a pocket WiFi with starter load, an LED TV, and a wide variety of study modules.

According to Darwin Flores, Smart’s Vice-President for Community Partnerships, School-in-a-Bag is the leading telecom company’s attempt to bring people together using technology.

“The people of the Philippines have been divided by geography for the longest time,” says Darwin. “So Smart came up with School-in-a-Bag to unite them by giving people internet access. This is part of our digital inclusion efforts. We want to enable children in even the most remote of areas to participate in the global knowledge economy. There’s so much to learn out there, and School-in-a-Bag will help them gain access to that wealth of information,” Flores said.

So far, School-in-a-Bag has made learning easier for the students in far-flung ‘unenergized’ schools like Rawang Elementary School in Tanay, Rizal. Most of the children who go to school there have never seen, much less used, desktop computers and tablets. But thanks to Smart, second grader Katrina Apelada can now familiarize herself with such gadgets and figure out how to use them to improve her grades. Teachers can also make their classes more dynamic and interesting, using the learning tools School-in-a-Bag contains.
Rawang Elementary School is just one of 18 schools in remote areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao that have already received School-in-a-Bag units. Most recently, two island schools in Coron, Palawan—Banuang Daan Elementary School and Cabugao Elementary School—got their own units, and Gabby himself delivered the MCA Music School-in-a-Bag package.

Gabby decided to get on the School-in-a-Bag train because he’s a big believer in the power of education. The schools Gabby went to shaped him as a musician and songwriter. Not only did his classes teach him how to write well, but it was in high school that he began his musical journey. Had he not been able to finish his studies, his life would probably have turned out very differently.

That’s why the Cebuano rocker was so eager to get involved with School-in-a-Bag in the first place. He wanted to give students a chance to change their lives by encouraging them to stay in school. He believes School-in-a-Bag will help them become more motivated to do so. Luckily, Gabby has the full support of his label. After all, MCA Music is all about music, charity and hitmakers like Gabby who love to pay it forward.

Interested parties can also give the gift of digital learning to more schools all over the Philippines by sponsoring a School-in-a-Bag. Each unit costs P100,000. For more information, email TechnoCart@smart.com.ph.

One FC: Kings Of Destiny

The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), recently held a press conference at City of Dreams Manila on Tuesday, 18 April to kick off the ONE: KINGS OF DESTINY fight week. In attendance was ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang along with challenger Ev “E.T.” Ting of Malaysia. Also in attendance was ONE Championship Vice President for Public Relations and Communications Loren Mack, City of Dreams Manila Vice President for Gaming Operations Kevin Benning, as well as supporting card fighters Christian “The Warrior” Lee, Wan “The Werewolf” Jian Ping, Gina “Conviction” Iniong, and Natalie “The Kilapino” Gonzales Hills.

Loren Mack, ONE Championship Vice President for Public Relations and Communications, stated: “Since it is ONE Championship’s tenth event on Philippine soil, we have prepared the very best match lineup for the delight of our Filipino audience and the rest of the world. ONE: KINGS OF DESTINY is going to be the biggest mixed martial arts card in the country's history. We have the Philippines’ biggest star in Eduard Folayang defending his world title for the first time in Manila against Malaysia’s top contender Ev Ting. I just cannot begin to say how massive of a main event this will be. In addition, a handful of compelling bouts between Asia’s top superstars are set to take place inside the ONE Championship cage on fight night. Fans will not want to miss all the action that goes down in Manila, as we are already gearing up for an absolutely electrifying evening of world-class mixed martial arts."
Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the legendary Team Lakay in Baguio City is one of the Philippines’ most experienced mixed martial artists. The 33-year-old veteran authored a career resurgence in 2016, winning three consecutive bouts against high-profile opponents while showcasing a highly-improved wrestling and grappling arsenal. In his last bout, Folayang shocked the world by capturing the ONE Lightweight World Championship with a sensational victory over Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki. Folayang’s challenger, Ev “E.T.” Ting of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is also on a run of his own, winning his last four bouts including two impressive victories at lightweight to become a top contender for the title. The pair will go head-to-head in the main event of ONE: KINGS OF DESTINY.
Eduard Folayang, ONE Lightweight World Champion, stated: “Ev Ting is a great athlete. He is an amazing competitor and has obviously earned the opportunity to challenge for the title. He is the complete package, with good striking and a really good ground game. I need to be at my absolute best to make sure I can defend the belt successfully. I would love to test my skills against the best martial artist in the world, and to show everyone how much I have improved since my last match. I’m excited to showcase my skills in front of my countrymen.

Ev Ting, ONE title challenger, stated: “I have worked very hard to earn this opportunity. Eduard Folayang is a great champion and embodies the true values of martial arts, but I’m coming for the belt. I know chances like this are very rare and I will do my best to take the title home for my family and all of my fans. I feel strong and ready. I was built for this moment and I’m going to capture it and bring pride and honor to my country.
